In September 2017, we took the big decision to move our tutoring from our base in Glemsford Suffolk to delivering our tuition using Skype,Cloud Storage and online learning tools as our online platform. There are lots of reasons for this decision. Firstly, costs of running a centre had become prohibitive as demonstrated by the sad demise of Dyslexia Action teaching centres across England in 2017. We are already aware that paying additional tutoring costs is a big commitment for most of our parents, and as the Head Tutor I was determined to keep our fees as low as possible, while preserving the quality of delivery.
Secondly, we had been delivering one third of our lessons since 2000 using Skype, and had evidence that the quality of teaching and the improvement in learning were identical to those delivered face to face. In addition, we had begun to attract more Parents who wanted to use Skype due to the lack of qualified specialists in their own area. I am pleased to report that, as of Spring 2019, we have retained our five tutors and continue to attract new students, extending our international reach, with our first student on the African continent October 2019.
